Although, ELM is, and always will remain neutral from any political party affiliation or label, ELM very, passionately, committed to being politically active. ELM recognizes, and applauds the huge cost in finance, time, family priorities being set aside, for those selfless individuals who choose “good” and honest, selfless public servants through the political vocation at (local, state, federal) levels of government, regardless of party.
One of the most fundamental of ELM’s missions, is providing the latest, best, neutral, professional information, and options to policy leaders, not only while they are in office, but during the campaign, so that all candidates may become knowledgeable and possible solutions to community problems. ELM seeks to help provide the entire community with a host of candidates and officeholders who are knowledgeable on pressing community issues, regardless of any political differences. The entire community suffers when policymakers make decisions without being informed.

As a related concept, to ELM neutrality, ELM has zero tolerance, for any type of censorship or prevention of any type of free speech. One of the founding members of ELM is a trial attorney. Day in, and day out, American jurisprudence, traceable as far back as the courtrooms of England, have always permitted and required a controlled dispute resolution, procedural protocol.
Generally speaking, it is healthy to have two different, passionately presented sides to any important issue, within a forum that permits both sides to have a fair opportunity to be completely heard without being silenced. The person or entity who presides over that form makes sure everyone has their day, and their say.

At the end of all that discussion, rebuttal, sir rebuttal, a neutral fair decision is made on that particular issue. It is very often likely that the result is a combination of both positions, synthesizing the strength of both arguments. ELM believes that this dispute resolution and compromise procedure has likely resulted in some of the greatest accomplishments in this free country. Dissent is not only to be tolerated, but also to be welcomed, encouraged, and published so that both sides can push back and forth to a resolution that is best for all concerned.
